YBN Hop Tips, Mid-July 2017

I went to a music festival last weekend that had only four beer options. They were big brewery, generic beer options meant to quench the masses. While I wasn't pleased, I couldn't think of the last time I was in a situation with such limited choices, and not a single local brewery in sight.

Thankfully, except for the occasional festival, great, interesting, regional beer is all around us. Go drink some. Cheers, Tori

July 14-15, Boston Beer & BBQ Fest, Cyclorama at Boston Center for the Arts, Boston, MA -
Summer in Boston is a great time. And, if there's one food that we think of during this season, it's BBQ. Meat lovingly slow smoked for hours, while drinking a few craft beers...and then enjoyed with a few more. Yep, that sounds like heaven to us! Not everyone has the time or skill to smoke their own BBQ, though, so we've taken care of that part for you. Join us for the Boston Beer & BBQ Fest and you can start right at the enjoyment step! And this year, we've made it even bigger! 25 New England craft brewers and cideries along with 6 local BBQ joints. How can this be anything but great?! https://www.eventbrite.com/e/boston-beer-and-bbq-fest-tickets-32414992114

July 15, The Beer Show: A Royal Mocktober-Feast!, Kretschmann Brewing Co., Webster, MA -
The Beer Show is an Interactive Dinner Theater and Beer Tasting Experience. We've teamed up with some local Medieval and Renaissance entertainment talent to bring you this very unique and original show. Set in 19th Century Germany, King Ludwig II wants to throw a party that is bigger and better than the annual party his grandfather King Ludwig I had created … otherwise known as Oktoberfest. Like his grandfather, he also wants the party to be his wedding …. but who will he marry? Partygoers will be seated in King Ludwig's Beer Hall and treated to a three course German Banquet and Kretschmann Beer Tasting accompanied by music, comedy, games and interactions as only the King himself could "meister" up! This is a 21 AND OVER... event and tickets must be bought in advance and online. There are no ticket sales at the brewery. Tickets sales for each show end 5 days before the scheduled performance. Any scheduled performance is subject to be cancelled with full refunds given. The show is 7-9pm on each scheduled evening and doors open at 6:30pm. Please no late entry. Refunds are at the discretion of Kretschmann Brewing Company. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-beer-show-a-royal-mocktober-feast-tickets-34832517999?aff=erelpanelorg

History meets craft brewing on August 5th at the Wyman Tavern Brew Fest. The event will feature brewers from New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, and Massachusetts. It will take place on the grounds of the historic Wyman Tavern Museum on Main Street in Keene. Proceeds from the Wyman Tavern Brew Fest will benefit the Historical Society of Cheshire County, an organization which has been collecting, preserving, and sharing the history of the Monadnock region since 1927. The Historical Society puts on about 150 programs per year such as exhibits, living history festivals, summer camps, teacher workshops, school visits, films, lectures, and field trips. The most important artifact of the Historical Society is the Wyman Tavern, built in 1762, which the Society operates as a period house museum. Alan Rumrill, the director of the Historical Society of Cheshire County, said, "A Brew Fest seems like a good fit for the Historical Society of Cheshire County. Beer and ales surely flowed in the Wyman Tavern's Tap Room in the 1700's, and today craft brewers are reviving the old ways of brewing." Music by Brew Ha Ha and the Cold River Ranters The Wyman Tavern Brew Fest will get underway at 1 pm and visitors will be able to sample the brews until 5 pm. http://hsccnh.org/event/wyman-tavern-brew-fest/
