Player Stats:
A surprisingly balanced double IPA. A pirate without the use of his eyes is a bitter man indeed. And this Blind Pirate's bitterness is only matched by his boldness. He doesn't care if you enjoy the citrusy, spicy combination of hops on your tongue, the faint herbal notes in your nose, or the exquisite balance of caramel malts looting your senses. The Blind Pirate is a bold, bitter ale not for the weak in spirit. Just don't ask him if you can borrow his sight glass. He gets offended.

Blonde and lean with a brash tropical saturated nose, this beer is a showcase for hops. Exceedingly piney and resinous in flavor with bright citrus tones appearing and reappearing. Brash but not especially bitter, this beast's focus is on saturated hop flavors. The malt is almost an afterthought. Some sweet and toasty foundation will be apparent but only after the coalescence of hop flavors fade away. Dry and quaffable, this beer will not seem like it is over 8% abv. The use of hop bursting will impart a soft bitterness that will not seem like 90 IBUs.

So called because of its truly "ruinous" effect on your palate, this massive hop monster will change forever your preconceptions of what defines good beer. This is Stone IPA's big brother, and we mean BIG. We essentially began with our already-awesome Stone IPA, threw in an extra-large helping of malt, and added a lot more hops. And then some more. And then even more, resulting in a vibrant blast of citrusy bitterness that hits you on the first sip. There has been much talk and controversy lately over a fairly newly adopted style of beer featuring the blackness of a stout and the hop character of an IPA. We're bucking both the naming trends of "Cascadian Dark Ale" and "India Black Ale" and calling our newest Brewer's Choice beer "Nebraskadian Black Ale". Perfect for the dead of winter, this beer was made with a unique, seasonally offered malt called Black Prinz which gives the beer plenty of darkness in color but with a very restrained roastiness. We also threw in a generous helping of Simcoe hops that we've been carefully hoarding for just the right beer. The result is wonderfully piny and slightly floral to the nose, sweet and fruity at first on the palate and then a bit drier, with hints of chocolate and a finish that balances again towards the hops.

This beer takes its name from the oversized animals of the Pleistocene Era, or Ice Age. Large saber toothed cats, hairy elephants, sloths the size of buses roamed the frozen tundras. Everything was big and/or hairy, with extra horns, tusks, teeth, etc. A tough time to be fighting for survival…Like those massive animals, this beer is huge with hop aroma and flavor. We used several new aromatic hop varieties to get a layered and hop oil soaked beer which, unlike the frozen tundra, isn't bitter, and finishes dry. The Aroma and flavor are layers of Pine, citrus and tropical fruit and the beer is a pale gold. We hope you drink it in good health and keep warm.

Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale

Team:
Stone Brewing Co.

Escondido, CA

Player Stats:
We're brewers whose substantial mettle and idiomatic approach to brewing allows us to consistently create works of art such as this justifiably self-righteous ale. Its bitterness hits our sweet spot. Its blackness lightens our hearts. Its liquid dichotomy pulls it all together in this sublimely sacrosanct ale. Yes, we damn well know our stuff here at Stone, and it would be irresponsible of us not to acknowledge how remarkable this heavenly creation of ours is. Thus the name we are compelled to give it --- Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale --- serves as a reminder of just how good we are, in both liquid and verbal form. We're certainly not perfect. Too often, we allow our modesty to get the best of us as we're simply not inclined towards senseless braggadocio. When you're good, you're good. And when you do something great, the least you can do is acknowledge it. Others benefit from knowing. In this case, we find that we are compelled to point out how amazing this ale is that we rightly call the Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale. First brewed in 2007 as the Stone 11th Anniversary Ale, this ale was an instant hit. With us. Other folks with great taste loved it too, but we were focused on how much we liked it, and we felt it was truly sublime. That euphoria didn't last long though, as it was soon replaced with the grim reality that when we sold out of it there wouldn't be any more. For us. And that was simply unacceptable. So, we are now blessing ourselves, and you the enlightened, with this ale. Thusly, you may now revel in your own self-righteousness as you see fit with this glorious example of ours. You are genuinely welcome, as it is our pleasure.

Currently one of the most sought-after beers around, DRIPA won a Gold Medal in the IPA category at the 2012 World Beer Cup, the biggest commercial beer competition in the world. Huge citrus hop character in the aroma is followed by a medium-high bitterness, balanced surprisingly well with cereal malty notes. The signature of this beer is the dry snap at the finish, thanks to a very time consuming cereal mash with American long-grain rice.
